Better is Peace

May 18th, 2009
· by Rosalinda · Filed Under: Karl Jenkins · Poetry · peace

“Better is Peace” is the same melody that is highlighted in the “L’Homme Arme” blog post. However, this same melody wears a different attire in this post. The mood is different and is more upbeat. It is interesting to note that composer, Karl Jenkins, purposely creates an eternal knot with his music.

Depicting war’s beginning, in the previous blog post, we heard a marching call of duty; now later the same melody catapults us to end’s new beginning of peace. The former march prunes its pace and transforms into a celebrating dance. What were once tears of a soldier are now replaced with the smiles of a child.

Upon further introspection, one can hear the same song twice but if the mood and attitude of the person has changed, the song echoes a different sound. Also, as part of an eternal knot, we can all partake in historic expression and learn to become master composers of our own lives!

I am reminded of another poem from the book “Gentle Whispers.” For further contemplation, I offer the words below:

The Composer

Heart of a being
Has its own melodious ring
Identity of a soul
Is known by how the heart sings.
Silence, a transparent cloak,
Welcomes a listener’s ear
Behind the veil of earthly ties
Is music in seasoned sphere.
Siphoned to composer’s mind
The cloak is removed for all to hear
Embraced in moments of emotional sound
His wand strikes air to summon a tear.
Joy released in hills and streams
Scaffolds skies with meadow’s team
Birds in flight and ocean’s deep jewels
Entwine in harmonious, daring dual.
Flowers with petals spread
Have wands of their own
Soft music records
In shimmering tone.
Unspoken words make room for another
They glide, transcending in spiritual flow
Heart of man has song that stays with him
His lifestyle composes every note to sow.

Artistic director, Alan Boyer, waves his conductor’s wand and eloquently guides the Spotlight Review Dancers on the stage along with the Utah Light Opera and Utah Premiere Brass. He does this so well reflecting an eternal collaboration of harmony and peace.

What is your song and what orchestra have you chosen to play for you?

More to come….

Search for Peace

May 18th, 2009
· by Rosalinda · Filed Under: Poetry · war

The search for peace replaces the quest for glory as depicted in this moving segment. Screams of the dying followed by a trumpet’s cry set the tone for quiet contemplation.

Angry flames fueled by pride transform a tainted landscape. In the aftermath, rubble and desolation create a hollow space, a cleansing for humility to take root. Humility introduces newfound hope as man, once again, turns his face to Agnus Dei.

Is the landscape shaped like an eternal knot? Perhaps we need to dwell upon the creative expression of Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins. His haunting melody, Benedictus, ignites something deep inside. He helps us to see from a distance the ashes in a purged panorama.

When men’s hearts begin to fail them, and towers crumble and fall, embers of a fallen nation are gathered to create a new fire, lighting the torch within.

lighting the torch within…

Perhaps this is an appropriate moment for me to share a poem from the book “Gentle Whispers.”

Summer Camp

Moment is mine to steal and hide
Beneath besieging blue
Its sky is high and free to guide
My thoughts to mystic hue.
Birds that cross my vision fly
To trees of their free choosing
Songs in symposium, spirits in love
Boundaries collectively fusing.

Gentle breeze brushes my face
I lie in timber green
From swooping birds who know my pace
and stir my senses clean.
Farmlands melt my fading dreams
They boast of golden torches
Riding sun’s synthetic steed
They sway in mocking scorches.

Fence of wire keeps me within
To protect me from the wild
And silently a fox’s chin
Is pressed on the other side.
Waiting in turn, humble hearts yearn
safer pasture to tread
Moment lays hold to wriggle and churn
telltale ashes that define the dead.

In crude awakening scope
Siren blasts its sound
It meddles with a moment’s hope
And sinks it to the ground.
The fear to fall, nature’s stance
befuddled before the tower
Is haunted by a threatening chance
To lose one’s precious power.

Fox’s ears are sharp and pointed
His head is turned to face the fire
Exchanging glances with eyes anointed
Know fate lies with this wire.
In hurried steps I dodge the light
For night has fallen now
Beyond the fence freedom fires fight
And a fox’s shadow stoops and bows.

Ready to plummet through farewell’s chasm
Unchaperoned in universal hall
Fire tails flickering will lose their spasm
Towers corrupt will crumble and fall.
Stars of deity destined to call
Are the same in Heaven, countless, aglow
In silent posture I face execution’s wall
one heart to beat forevermore.

Their stories are heard. Your forefathers know them well.
If we forget, nature calls to give us a gentle reminder.
If we ignore it, nature sends us a storm.

In conclusion to this mellifluous performance of the heart it would also be appropriate to end with these words:

When the sun sets in our lives,
hope rises again to greet a new day.

A new day brings peace if
it is allowed to reign in your heart.

Hope you are enjoying this War and Peace series. There is more to come!

Christmas

December 24th, 2007
· by Rosalinda · Filed Under: Christmas · Everest Peace Project · Online card · Personal Development · Philosophy · Photo · Poetry · Thought For The Day · Video

Merry Christmas everyone! It is Christmas Eve, and I have a card waiting for you below. Hope you can enjoy this day without all the Christmas rush! I only have a couple of things to buy, as I chose to have a candlelit evening with harp music, friends and food, instead of shopping.

It has been my goal to give special attention to the true meaning of Christmas, and invite the spirit of Christmas into my heart. I believe it is possible to have that while shopping, baking, running errands etc; fighting the crowd, long queues, scheduled visits, it doesn’t matter what it is, as each day is a bonus.

There was a time I was in hospital, bedridden, wishing I could be out there, fighting the crowds.  I would have carried a smile and given it to others, just to be out there having the ability to walk, talk and move around. Now I can enjoy all of this, and yes, I carry that smile still, because everyday is indeed a bonus!

As promised in my previous article, here is a thought for you to reflect upon, from my book ”Gentle Whispers.”

“Some travelers may stop at the first barricade they come to and spend many years figuring out how to get through.  Others may look upon the barricade as a marker on a map to help them continue the parallel journey.”

Gentle Whispers © 2007 Rosalinda Burton

This thought goes right along with the poem that is spotlighted on the main site.  Be sure to visit that page. Other poems will be spotlighted as soon as I get others to join the journey with me.  It will be a rewarding one for all of us.

When one thinks of a rewarding journey, one thinks of progress.  Look at the site and see how we are progressing. There are spotlights on: video, photo, and poetry. The main site’s layout is done now.  Enjoy the other video featured on it and read its accompanying article, “The Everest Peace Project.”  Be sure to share your opinions.

I wouldn’t mind hiking to base camp of Mount Everest. Hiking to the top of Mount Everest is way out of reach for me and my personal desires; however, sharing this inspiring story has captivated my heart. How has it affected yours?

The next article may not take us to Mount Everest but will take us on a parallel journey.  Stay tuned!
